My original guy did good in certain areas and not so in others (and I paid to have someone else correct it). I can tell anyone here all they want to know on paint jobs. If I decided to paint it, the question is which paint to use, or is there really any significant difference.Īll of the advice is really appreciated. If it is a sell decision, I think I should discount the price and let the new owner paint it as they wish. If it is a keep, I think I must paint it to protect my investment. I expect to make a keep/sell decision in December/January.

It is beginning to flake on the top surfaces. It has been outside for the last 3 years and I think the lacquer is finally giving up. Lacquer shrinks and cracks with age especially if it is 30 years old. The paint on the plane is factory original lacquer. Both do about the same job in terms of removing control surfaces, prep etc. Straube uses Jet Glo and also enjoys a good reputation out here in San Diego. Good reputation locally and their jobs look great even several years later. They are the ones that do the Cirrus stuff. The local shop says they use Imron exclusively.
